 The company's principals pioneered the electronic delivery of community association data and documents and its commercial acceptance in the market.  This experience in conjunction with a commitment to provide products and services meeting the collective needs of community associations, their managers and businesses that interact with associations daily, insures universal client and user satisfaction.

Our People

Greg Pater, Chairman, Principal

Prior to founding HomeWise, Mr. Pater was a founding member of CondoCerts.com, Inc., a data and document ASP used by management companies and community associations nationally.  For 20 years prior to the formation of CondoCerts, Mr. Pater held executive positions at several large mortgage companies including Weyerhaeuser Mortgage, Hamilton Savings Bank and First California Mortgage.  Mr. Pater has held operational and production positions in both the primary and secondary mortgage markets and has managed the funding of over $50 billion in mortgage loans throughout his career.Greg holds both a Bachelors of Science degree in Finance and a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology with an emphasis in Genetics from San Diego State University.

Jeff Butler, Principal

Prior to founding HomeWise, Mr. Butler was a founder of CondoCerts.com. Additionally, he is a founding member of Community Association Insurance Services.  These companies were started to serve the common interest community management industry and the underlying common interest communities.  CAIS is teaming with major insurance companies to produce premier insurance products for HOAs and their board members.  HomeWiseDocs.com is an enhanced web based data and document storage platform delivering critical data and documents required in real estate sales and lending transactions for properties within a common interest development. Jeff along with Greg, has an extensive background in the mortgage industry having served in executive capacities in every phase of the primary and secondary mortgage markets.  He holds a Bachelor Degree from UC Davis and a Masters Degree in Business from Golden Gate University, San Francisco.

Manny Chaves, President

Manny Chaves is the President of HomeWiseDocs.com.  Before joining HomeWise, Manny was the executive vice president in charge of sales at CondoCerts. Chaves has over 20 years experience working with IT and internet based companies. He has held senior leadership positions in sales, marketing and customer services management.  He currently heads sales and Marketing for Common Interest Insurance Services, a property and casualty insurance agency servicing homeowner associations' commercial insurance needs.  He is a graduate of UC Davis with a degree in Economics and received his Master of Business Administration from Golden Gate University.

Pal Grewal, Chief Technology Officer

Pal Grewal has a degree in Computer Science and Engineering from University of California, Davis, and extensive database management and development training from Oracle and Java programming training from Sun Microsystems. He is also proficient in several other programming languages, operating systems, and hardware configuration and management. Prior to leading software development at HomeWisedocs.com, Pal led software development and hardware projects at CondoCerts. These projects were key to CondoCerts' success and are being used by hundreds of their customers. He also helped develop a Circuit Breaker Alert tool at Bay Area Rapid transit (BART) to alert repair teams about any circuit breaker failures on the BART system. He also maintained a network of over 500 hundred users at the University of California, Davis Extension. 

Annie Purtill, Director of Operations

Annie comes to HomeWiseDocs.com with extensive technical, operational and training experience from industry giants such as Hewlett Packard.  She has been involved in developing technical training curricula and has served as a liaison between various corporate departments, overseeing projects from inception to release.  Annie has also held both administrative and teaching positions at a private K-9 academy.  She has a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Davis. 

Philip Safran, Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Safran holds a California CPA certificate as well as an MBA from California State University at Hayward.  He has over 20 years of experience as a Controller or Chief Financial Officer.  In the Savings and Loan industry he was the Chief Financial Officer or Controller of several privately held and publicly traded Banks, including Continental Savings of America, Sutter Buttes Savings Bank and Monterey Bay Bank.  He was also the Chief Financial Officer of a privately owned Mortgage Banking Company with six branches and operations in three states.  These companies had asset sizes up to $500 million, annual loan funding up to $1 billion and up to 75 employees. He has prepared 10Ks and 10Qs in both the public reporting as well as the non public banking environment.  He has managed liquidity of $100 million.  His strength in cost containment as well as his implementation of sound financial principles has improved profitability for these companies.  In the Banking Industry, as well as in the Mortgage Banking Industry, Mr. Safran handled regulatory reporting.  He also managed borrowings and other financings.  His responsibilities have included managing payroll and personnel issues.
